I heard this rumour years ago, that MJ Fox wasnt the origional Marty Mc Fly.
But i just thought it was that they offered the job to someone else first.
Well it seems Back to the Future was actually filmed twice—once with Eric Stoltz in the role of Marty McFly, and once with Michael J. Fox. But despite Studio proclamations that only a few scenes were involved, the truth is that the majority of the film was shot with Eric Stoltz. The other actors confirmed it was flmed twice.
I wonder why they reworked the entire movie? There has got to be a story there

Michael J. Fox had always been the first choice for Marty, but scheduling conflicts due to his work on “Family Ties”, initially prevented him from taking the part. Eric Stoltz was initially cast as Marty, but Michael replaced him, driving straight to the movie set after taping of the show was finished every day. He averaged about one or two hours’ sleep during production. The bulk of the production was filmed from 6pm to 6am, with the daylight scenes filmed at the weekend.
A similar case was that of Indiana Jones. Tom Selleck was all but ready to begin shooting Raiders of the Lost Ark (the bonus DVD that comes with the trilogy box set actually has footage of him in action), but contractual obligations to Magnum PI meant he had to leave the production. Harrison Ford was moonlighting as a carpenter in a building near Pinewood studios, so George Lucas, who knew him from Star Wars, gave him an audition. Can you really imagine anyone else as Indiana Jones?
Oh, and Eric Stoltz played Rocky Dennis in that film with Cher.
