Belfast has a fairly competitive print media sector considering the regions population. Recently this has taken the form of redesigns at the Irish News and Belfast Telegraph but it looks like the Irish News are launching a new front with an online news channel IN.TV after the Telegraph recently launched a revamped site. Having been on the site I’m impressed - the video content is decent, fast and unlike the BBC doesn’t use the hateful Real Player. Whilst it looks this will have a limited market and I’m unsure how successful it will be you have to commend the Irish News for their innovative and forward thinking approach. The only thing I wonder is why a seperate site - why not build on the Irish News brand and incorporate in amongst written news like the BBC do?
